All in all, customers are positive about the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 17000 though not quite as positive as those who have instead purchased the Winix PlasmaWave 5300, for example, with a 10% difference in total review score between them.
Nonetheless, most customers who have got the Honeywell 17000 discuss their reasons for their purchase – mainly allergies and/or health reasons e.g. colds, flu, etc., and then proceed to evaluate the Honeywell 17000′s performance in reducing symptoms.
I’m pleased to report that the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 17000 seems to be performing very well in all areas: To quote the most helpful reviewer, [air purifiers] “really work!” following his experience with the Honeywell 17000. For the first time, he did not contract any kind of illness be it cold or the more severe flu over the winter.
Moreover, he praises the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 17000 for its “whisper soft” low noise. Other people who bought the Honeywell 17000 mention the disappearance of coughs and allergies,
The improvement of sleep quality, and the feeling of the air being “crisp” after it has been filtered. To summarize, the Honeywell 17000 works very well,
It’s not as expensive as some other air purifiers, it’s relatively quiet and the HEPA filter is permanent. All these lead to an overall very positive impression.
Most reviews online are in favor of the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 17000, however as always if you dig deep you can find a few complaints. I will now briefly air out (no pun intended) a few of the major drawbacks of the Honeywell 17000.
The main thing I hear from most of the negative reviews is that the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 17000 is loud, which is quite strange as I hear the opposite from positive reviews.
The only thing we can conclude from this is that the perception of sound level is very much subjective; what’s loud for one isn’t for another person, and vice versa.
Frankly, if your air purifier is producing a noticeable sound, it is actually a sign that it is working. Sure, you can buy very quiet air cleaners for quite cheap, but they don’t truly filter your air. Inevitably, filtration leads to noise, however you sugar coat it.
The second drawback of the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 17000 is that, while portable, the unit is rather big relative to other more powerful air purifiers on the market. With the size of it, you would think it could handle a room twice the volume of 12′ x 14′.
Although the cost per cubic foot purified is decent, the size of the unit relative to one cubic foot purified is not so good.
At the same time, we have to remember that the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier does cost half that of most other air purifiers that you’ll see on Amazon, so it’s important to keep realistic expectations.
Last but not least, there will be the added cost of replacing the carbon filter, which does a great job at removing odors and other pollutants, but it’s not so nice to have to spend a little extra cash every 6 months that you have to replace it.
While the Honeywell 17000 is not necessarily the best air purifier of them all, it is the cheapest that Honeywell has to offer and thus gives more budget-conscious consumers the chance to obtain quality air purification at a reasonable price.
